The study program of Communication Sciences Faculty of Communication and Information UMS has 3 (three) concentrations that can be taken by students :
Ability to write basic journalistic product is the ability to be possessed by a graduate student of Communication Studies. For this reason, the study program of Communication, journalism concentration is the concentration that must be taken by each student.
This concentration will teach students ranging from journalistic ethics, the value of news, news items, writing straight news, to write investigative product. Students will be provided on the theories of journalism to the practice of journalism.
At the beginning of the semester, students will be taught the language of journalism in Indonesian course, then students will be taught about the code of ethics. Stepping in subsequent semesters, students must take courses basic journalism about making direct news, henceforth be equipped to take courses write feature, broadcast journalism, photo journalism, investigative journalism to Media Production.
For concentrations Broadcast and Cinema, students are expected to have the core competencies in the fields of planning and manufacture of television and film production, as well as capable of editing postproduction. Students must also be able to conduct research audiences media actors, production research capabilities television programs and movies, as well as being able to apply ethics and law in television broadcasting activities and movies.
Graduate profile Broadcast and Cinema concentration is combining ability in the field of television and movies. Armed with these capabilities, then a graduate study program can work as a broadcaster, television and film producer, program director, cameramen, account executive television or movies in a variety of electronic media or broadcasting research institutions.
Since its inception, communication study program has had three concentrations, namely: Broadcast, Public Relations, and Advertising. The concentration third run for four years. After evaluation, Communication Studies Prodi was to revamp the curriculum which also resulted in changes in concentration.
Currently, creative company field of Public Relations and Advertasing have fused and growing rapidly. The unification led to the concept of Public Relations and Marketing Communications. To follow the market share is growing, the concentration of PR and Advertasing were merged and changed its name to Public Relations and Marketing Communications.
This is done with the consideration that the students can compete in the world of work later. In addition, demand has forced graduates who follow the Public Relations concentration can understand the mindset of the advertising world, and vice versa.
In this concentration, students are taught about concepts Public Relations are also combined with the concept of Advertising. students will learn from branding, creative writing for advertising products and PR, advertising execution, until finally the execution of advertising and public relations campaigns.
This concentration will teach students ranging from the level of the concept to a practical level in the world of advertising and PR.
