Surakarta – The Communication Science of the Faculty of Communication and Informatics (FKI) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) held an International Scientific Journal Writing Workshop at Harris Hotel & Convention Solo on Tuesday (28/4). This activity was attended by all lecturers of the Communication Science FKI UMS as part of efforts to strengthen academic capacity and improve the quality of international scientific publications.

Head of the Communication Studies Program at UMS, Sidiq Setyawan, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom, in his speech emphasized the importance of this workshop as a strategic step to enhance the research and publication productivity of lecturers.

“Hopefully, this training will bring benefits to all of us.” The hope is that later there will be research topics that can be produced, which can then develop into collaborative research with students, and eventually be published in international scientific journals,” he said.

Sidiq also added that the establishment of the newly opened Master’s Program (S2) in Communication Science at UMS further strengthens the urgency of developing an academic culture based on research and reputable publications.

“UMS has now opened a Master’s program in Communication Studies, making the need for scientific publications increasingly important in supporting superior academic development,” he added.

The workshop features two experienced speakers in the fields of scientific publication and communication research.

The first speaker, Dani Fadillah, S.I.Kom., M.A., Ph.D., a lecturer in the Communication Science at Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD), presented strategies for writing letters to the editor as one of the opportunities for academics to penetrate internationally indexed Scopus journals. In his session, Dani explained the importance of understanding the format, scientific argumentation, and the relevance of research issues so that the writing has a greater chance of being accepted in reputable journals.

Meanwhile, the second speaker, Dr. Fajar Junaedi, S.Sos., M.Si, a lecturer in the Communication Science at Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY), presented material on the use of bibliometrics in communication science research. Fajar emphasized that bibliometrics can be a strategic approach in mapping research trends, identifying research gaps, and enhancing the quality of scientific studies based on global academic data.

Thru this workshop, the Communication Science of FKI UMS demonstrates its commitment to building a productive, collaborative, and internationally-oriented academic ecosystem. It is hoped that this activity will encourage the emergence of more high-quality research from both lecturers and students, while also strengthening UMS’s position in the global higher education arena.
